Boris Kinkulkin
occupies the middle ground between realism and the abstract. His mood
swings from lyrical and abstract to openly expressionist, with a fast
internal rhythm. According to the artist, “When you look at a landscape,
your feelings do not come through your eyes only, but rather from within
a wider context -- historical and even symbolic. This is what leads me
to an abstract view of a landscape”.
He repeatedly paints his immediate environment - himself, the view from
his window, etc., based on a close observation aimed at achieving simplicity
on the one hand and freedom on the other. “By continuous contemplation
and repeated painting of the same landscapes I hope to create a new reality
and find a different dimension that does not exist in the landscape,
nor in the color proper.
