The Jerusalem
Artists House
In the Mezzanine gallery Jorge Cabeceiras (born in the Azorean islands
in 1951) shows a number of seemingly trite things of figures in a park
at Ohel Moshe, but the best of them begin to grow on you the more you
look at them. Cabeceiras does all his oils in much the same way, lifting
the tail of every little stroke of impasto into the air. This, aided
by strong harmonic contrasts and the liberal use of whites results in
a highly active – sometimes overactive – surface, so that
it’s hard to detect at first exactly what is really going on. Some
of the harmonies are crude, but a few of the larger ones are subtle in
color and engaging.
